iMove Granted New Patent for Panoramic Imaging

Extends iMove Intellectual Property in Panoramic Image Seaming

Portland, OR., March 27, 2000 - iMove has been granted a new patent recognizing its work in creating panoramic photographic images by seaming together multiple overlapping photographs taken using sub-hemsipheric fisheye lens. Patent number 6,031,540, "Method and Apparatus for Simulating Movement in Multidimensional Space with Polygonal Projections from Subhemispheric Imagery" was issued on February 29, 2000.

"iMove has been involved in aggressive research and development in areas relating to panoramic imaging and multiview interactive video," said David Ripley, iMove's CTO. "The award of a patent is the culmination of a lot of effort and recognizes the uniqueness and commercial value of our work."

iMove is working to extend the science of computer visualization and has a variety of other patent applications in progress. The company will continue to build a valuable portfolio of intellectual property in the area of panoramic imaging, multiview interactive video, and streaming media.

iMove was originally formed in 1995 by David Ripley, and early work was concentrated on the development of SmoothMove Technology: a set of software tools to turn computer-generated models into photorealistic panoramas. Taking this technology a step further, iMove developed panoramic videos that link a series of panoramas together enabling the user to "tour" a computer-generated or photographed environment moving forwards, backwards, up and down, and zooming in and out. Ripley, now Chief Technology Officer, continues to drive the product technology into the new realm of Multiview Interactive Video.
